Lincomycin HCl
Indications/Uses
Infections of upper resp tract: Tonsillitis, pharyngitis, otitis media, sinusitis, scarlet fever; lower resp tract: Acute & chronic bronchitis, pneumonia; skin & mucous membranes: Cellulitis, furuncles, abscess, impetigo, acne & wound; bone: osteomyelitis & septic arthritis. Septicemia & endocarditis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Serious infections 500 mg 3 times daily 8 hrly. More severe infections ≥500 mg 4 times daily 6 hrly. Childn >1 mth Serious infections 30 mg/kg/day in 3 or 4 divided doses. More severe infections 60 mg/kg/day into 3 or 4 divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals w/ a full glass of water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to lincomycin or clindamycin. Neonates.
Special Precautions
History of GI disease; asthma. Liver & renal dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions, haematopoetic changes, renal dysfunction, jaundice.
Drug Interactions
Neuromuscular agents, erythromycin, antiperistaltic agents.
